Mitzi

The next morning, Mitzi awoke for the first time ever, wrapped in someone’s arms. It was a feeling, while new, she quite enjoyed. She laid there for a while, looking at her surroundings, enjoying the feeling of a warm body next to her. Knowing that it was Amelia sent her heart beating fast inside her chest.

When she finally, carefully, pulled away, Mitzi went to fetch her clothing. Quietly she made her way into the kitchen. Before she knew it, she was working away, baking bread and frying some eggs and bacon in a pan. As she plated the food, she felt arms wrap around her from behind and a kiss on her cheek. Mitzi turned with a smile, handing Amelia a plate of food.

“You don’t have to cook every time you come over, you know,” Amelia noted as she sat down at the table with her plate.

Mitzi let out an airy laugh as she pulled the hot bread from the oven. “It’s my favorite thing.” After she pulled it from the pan, she sliced a few pieces and came to sit next to Amelia. “Don’t you have that something that just makes you so happy you could burst?”

Amelia thought for a moment as she took a bite to eat. “Well, my work does.”

“What do you do exactly?” Mitzi asked her, stirring her eggs on her plate. “I know you help Erin, but I always wondered what you do all day.”

“I help her with her financial records. Managing her money.”

“Well, in any case, you’re the best cook I know,” Amelia said, taking another bite of food. When they’d finished, the two cleaned up the kitchen together, leaving it as spotless as it had been the night before.

They returned to the Christmas store together, hand in hand, only breaking once they’d made it inside. Even while they tried to focus, Mitzi couldn’t stop thinking about Amelia. As she was climbing down the ladder after putting up boxes of ornaments, Amelia met her at the bottom, stealing a quick kiss before wandering away. When Erin asked for boxes from the back of the store, Mitzi wandered by Amelia, grazing her fingers over her back as she walked by. There were no words to describe the feelings she felt when the two of them met eyes from across the room, or when Amelia would brush her hand on the side of her cheek when they’d kiss for just a moment.

At the end of the day, Mitzi and Amelia found themselves alone in the store. While Mitzi swept the floors, she hummed along to the music that played above her. When she finally looked up, Amelia was leaning against a stack of boxes, her arms crossed over her chest, smiling at her. Mitzi paused for a moment, returning the smile. They came
